Day 5 and 6 – Holy Mackinaw

September 18th. started with pretty Sunrise on Presque Isle Bay.

A 60 NM run on a flat Lake Huron brought us to Mackinac Island arriving about 4PM.  After getting settled in we had dinner on the boat and walked uptown for ice cream. The last time we were here was a 4th of July and it was crazy busy –  it was still busy, but much more enjoyable – I don’t like waiting in lines.  The main street hasn’t changed, it still smells like Fudge and Horses***.   We tried to go to the Pink Pony but the bar closed early so strolled back to the boat for a nightcap.

The next day was wet in the morning, but cleared later in the day and we got to check a couple of items off my bucket list.  We toured the harbour by dinghy and went to see the Lighthouse and Stone Arch from the water.

After lunch Janet and I took our bikes for a ride along the shoreline.  It was my first time on the bike since I broke my leg so we took it easy and didn’t climb any hills.

Then we had the pleasure of meeting up with my cousins, Derrick and Tracy, for a drink on the flybridge and a nice dinner at Smokey Joe’s.

We could have stayed for a couple of more days, but we didn’t want to miss the weather window to get closer to Chicago.

Trip totals Days 6, Distance 217, Bars 4
