01 Nov Day 48 & 49 Shiloh
The weather forecast for Halloween was heavy rains followed by frost warnings so when we got to Aqua Yacht Harbor we decided to pay extra for a covered slip for a few days. We spent a down day working on projects and processing pictures. The frost arrived right on schedule and although the Frozen Fog was pretty to look at you had to be careful because the ramps down to the docks were like big slides. Here is a picture of a Looper that decided to leave anyway. It would have been a chilly day to start down the Tombigbee.
The next day we took the Marina’s courtesy car to visit the Shiloh National Military Park.
Shiloh is the location of one of the first big battles of the US Civil war in April of 1862. You can read about it here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiloh_National_Military_Park as well as I can explain it.
It was interesting to see the cannons set up where they were actually used during the battle. I couldn’t imagine what is was like for those young soldiers to charge up those hills in the woods and face cannon fire.
Our visit was short due to the fact that we only had the courtesy car for a few hours and we had to do some provisioning. So we left the Park and went to a Tennessee Walmart. That was another adventure…
